Workforce Investment Act

Youth Services, Workforce Investment Act (WIA) focuses on employment and training of eligible youth. Low-income youth ages 14-21 who face any of the following barriers are eligible:

·          Out of school

·          Disability

·          Homeless

·          Offender

·          Parent offender

·          Foster youth/foster youth alumnus

·          Migrant Youth

Services available include the ten WIA program elements as options available to participants:

1.       Tutoring

2.       Alternative secondary school offerings

3.       Summer employment opportunities directly linked to academic and occupational learning

4.       Paid and unpaid work experiences

5.       Occupational skill training

6.       Leadership development opportunities

7.       Supportive services

8.       adult mentoring

9.       Follow-up services

10.   Comprehensive guidance and counseling, referrals to counseling as appropriate to the needs of the individual youth.

Ask about our Leadership Development opportunities – we have approximately 18 members that assist our community with various activities such as NYO. Leadership youth recently took a UNITY conference trip to Washington D.C. future plans include a NIEA meeting in Hawaii this fall.
