Recovery Services (RS) offers a comprehensive continuum of care for the Anchorage, Alaska Native population and others. Our treatment modalities include:
Street Outreach
Case Management
Screening & Brief Intervention
Assessment & Brief Therapy
Emergency Care/Detox
Intermediate Residential
Outpatient Level I and II
Continuing Care: Outpatient and Residential
Our Recovery Services are accredited by CARF.
Service Area: Most of the Recovery Services programs serve the Municipality of Anchorage. In some cases, such as some of our residential programs, we accept participants from across the state. Refer to individual program descriptions for specific features of each program.
System of Care
Recovery Services utilizes the "System of Care" approach to treatment with services centered on the participant and coordinated through case management. The System of Care creates partnerships with other community based agencies to expand both on-site and off-site services for participants in an effort to treat the "whole person".
Cultural Competence
The Recovery Services Department strongly believes in the value of culturally competent service delivery and we ensure its inclusion through the following practices:
Staff knowledge of the Native language of the participant: The Recovery Services department has access to staff who speak the major Alaska Native languages/dialects.
Staff sensitivity: CITC has achieved 64% Native hire. To assure Native representation on the RS management team, the department has established a Native management intern program to train talented Native staff into Director level positions, as openings occur. An Alaska Native holds the top management position in the department. Additionally, as part of CITC's orientation process for new employees, the history of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) and Alaska Native regional corporations is presented as well as the intent of Native preference in hiring (Public Law 93-638).
Representation of the participant population in decision making: Both Alaska Native participants and staff were involved in designing the current Recovery Services System of Care through focus groups and Advisory Committee capacity. Further, the Recovery Services Advisory Committee reviews evaluation findings prior to reporting.
Admission & Fees
Referral Process
Admission: CITC Recovery Services administers voluntary and mandated assessments. Placement is determined by the ASAM Placement Criteria and DSM IV Diagnosis. Placement Committee meetings are held twice a week.
Recovery Services has qualified mental health clinicians in most of its treatment units. We are moving towards integrated mental health and substance abuse services. Participants with a major mental illness may be referred elsewhere depending upon whether the patient is stabilized on his/her medication. Participants who present a threat to self and/or others will not be admitted.
Fees: Recovery Services fees are comparable to the other treatment programs in Anchorage. We offer a sliding scale for low-income participants. We also offer three Indian Health Service beds which require no out-of-pocket costs to Alaska Natives who can provide a Certificate of Indian Blood (as prescribed by P.L. 93-638, the Indian Self-Determination Act). We accept private insurance through third party carriers as well as Denali Kid Care (18-21) and Medicaid (for our Outpatient Services only).
Service Population: We serve adults with substance abuse disorders (harmful use, abuse or dependence). Diagnosis is through DSM IV and placement is determined by ASAM placement criteria.
