Residential Services
Building upon the “therapeutic community” model of treatment, Residential Services has developed a “Therapeutic Village of Services” to emulate an Alaska Native village community. Ours is an adaptation of the therapeutic community model and Alas
kan Native Culture. There is a focus on peer leadership through the Village Council.
There are three opportunities for work therapy t o contribute to on-going sobriety: Alaska Native arts and crafts, food services, and facilities maintenance. Skill development is an integral component in each participant’s path to sobriety.
Patient services are provided through the System of Care, with services coordinated through Case Management. In addition to Case Managers, the residential unit is staffed by a licensed mental health clinician and a Medical Director.
Residential services are composed of four distinct treatment units located at the Ernie Turner Center.
Wisdom Place is an 8-bed residential unit specifically for Alaska Native Elders. Eligibility requirement: Adults age 55 and older who are assessed to need this level of support.
Recovery Journey is an 8-bed, 60 to 90 day co-ed residential program that is specifically designed to treat adults over the age of 18 and under the age of 55 who have been assessed to receive this level of care. The Recovery Journey program was enhanced and accommodates up to six patients with co occurring disorders (mental health and substance abuse).
Transitions is a 6 bed co-ed unit for adults that is designed for individuals who are eligible: they must be homeless and have extensive involvement with Community Patrol Services as determined by number of interventions or “pick ups” in the last 30 days. Services are for up to 6 months with 5-6 months being recommended to address the very specific needs of this population.
Emergency Care/Detox Unit is a six-bed adult unit in a partnership with Southcentral Foundation and the Municipality of Anchorage. Eligibility requirements: Open to Alaska Natives and Native Americans within the Anchorage Service Unit. The detox unit is staffed by nurses and a medical director.
